Our Comprehensive Otoplasty Techniques
Ear Pinning
When the ears protrude noticeably from the sides of the head, repositioning the cartilage can bring them into better alignment with the rest of the face. This often involves creating a more defined fold within the ear to reduce projection. Through small incisions hidden behind the ear, Dr. Robey reshapes and secures the cartilage to hold the ear closer to the head. Ear pinning surgery is frequently performed on both sides for balanced results and is used for both adolescents and adults.
Ear Reduction
Large ears, whether due to genetics or stretched cartilage, can be surgically reduced in size. Dr. Robey carefully removes and recontours specific sections of the ear to create a smaller, more refined appearance. The natural curves of the ear are preserved while excess volume is addressed. Incisions are placed to keep any resulting scars discreet.
Ear Augmentation
Underdeveloped ears or ears with missing folds can be enhanced using cartilage grafts to build structure and improve contour. In some cases, tissue is taken from other areas of the body to create a framework that restores a more complete ear shape. This approach is especially helpful for congenital ear differences or after previous surgery or trauma.
Cauliflower Ear Repair
Chronic trauma to the ear, often from wrestling or contact sports, can lead to thickened, deformed cartilage and a distorted ear shape. Repairing cauliflower ear typically involves removing hardened tissue and reconstructing the ear’s natural curves. The internal structure is reshaped, and the skin is repositioned for a smoother contour.
Earlobe Repair
Torn, stretched, or elongated lobes can occur from trauma, heavy earrings, or gauging. Dr. Robey reshapes the lobe by removing damaged tissue and precisely suturing the edges to restore a smoother contour. Small incisions and fine sutures are used to minimize visible scarring.
