Comprehensive Eyelid Rejuvenation Options
At Robey Plastic Surgery, we offer multiple blepharoplasty techniques to address your concerns. You may only need your upper eyelids or lower eyelids addressed. However, many patients benefit from addressing both upper and lower eyelids simultaneously for comprehensive rejuvenation. This approach creates balanced, harmonious results and requires only one recovery period.
Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Upper eyelid surgery removes excess skin and fat to eliminate drooping and create a more defined upper eyelid crease. Dr. Robey places incisions within the natural crease of the upper eyelid, resulting in virtually invisible scars once healed.
For some patients, upper eyelid surgery is functional as well as cosmetic. When excessive upper eyelid skin obstructs peripheral vision, the procedure may be considered reconstructive and partially covered by medical insurance.
Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Lower eyelid surgery addresses under-eye bags, puffiness and fine wrinkles in the lower eyelids.
Dr. Robey offers various approaches for lower blepharoplasty:
Transcutaneous Approach: For patients with significant skin excess, this technique uses an incision just below the lower eyelash line to remove or reposition fat deposits and eliminate excess skin.
Transconjunctival Approach: When only fat needs to be removed or repositioned without skin excision, Dr. Robey uses an incision inside the lower eyelid that leaves no visible scar. This blepharoplasty technique is ideal for younger patients with good skin elasticity. A pinch of skin can also be removed during this procedure.
Canthopexy or Canthoplasty: These specialized techniques address lower eyelid laxity by reinforcing or reconstructing the outer corner of the eye. Canthopexy tightens and stabilizes without detaching the corner and is ideal for mild to moderate laxity. For cases of significant laxity, canthoplasty surgically repositions the outer corner to provide substantial support and enhance the eye’s natural almond shape.
Fat Transfer to Lower Eyelids: Adding tiny, precise amounts (micro-aliquots) of fat can also help create the ideal lower lid shape. For patients who notice overly prominent under-eye circles, this technique adds volume to fill depressed areas and can be a great rejuvenating option.
Some patients are even candidates for transferring fat to the upper lid if a previous surgery removed too much fat or if they naturally look overly hollow in this area.
Nonsurgical Eyelid Rejuvenation
Laser Eyelid Resurfacing: For patients with early-onset skin laxity or crepiness around the eyes (such as when eyelid makeup tends to smudge or settle into fine lines), nonsurgical laser resurfacing can be an excellent option. The CO2 laser can tighten the upper and lower eyelid skin in-office without an excisional approach.
