Liposuction is the suction-assisted removal of fat cells to improve body contour. It is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures. Various techniques have been developed for liposuction. Traditional liposuction technique relies on negative pressure within the liposuction cannula (tube) followed by the surgeon mechanically passing cannula into areas that need treatment. Ultrasound and laser-assisted liposuction both liquefy fat, thereby making the actual mechanical removal easier.

Tumescent liposuction involves using a local anesthetic to numb the area being treated. Liposuction is not for achieving significant weight loss; it is typically used to contour problem areas that have not responded to diet and exercise. Common areas addressed include the abdomen, inner/outer thighs, hips, back, face, neck, buttocks, legs and upper arms.

Target Troublesome Fatty Areas
Non-invasive fat reduction

ThermiSmooth 250 is a non-invasive procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to target the skin and/or or fatty tissue for a firmer, more youthful look. A hand piece placed on top of the skin is used to warm the tissues at various depths to target the areas of concern; patients have described the radiofrequency treatments as a warm stone massage.

For patients with concerns for loose skin, wrinkles and cellulite, the depth of treatment is adjusted to heat the collagen; the thermal injury induces a contraction and restructuring of the collagen, resulting in tighter and firmer skin. The radiofrequency energy also causes the formation of new collagen (neocollagenesis), adding to the fuller and more youthful look.

For patients considering liposuction, the radiofrequency energy can be delivered to the depth of the excess fatty tissue. Higher energy delivered to the fatty layer can cause the fat cells to break down with subsequent absorption and excretion by the body. Body contouring with the ThermiSmooth 250 is ideal for patients who are not interested in surgery but have areas of excess fat resistant to traditional diet and exercise.
